In grades four and five in British Columbia, students are expected to demonstrate social responsibility in a variety of situations, such as in small-group activities, whole class activities and routines, and conduct in the school and on the school grounds. In this course, you will be introduced to the code of conduct at Uplands Elementary school, and will be working in groups to determine a classroom code of rights to follow for the year. You will learn decision-making models for situations that involve social responsibility both as they come up in their daily interactions, and through stories and role plays. You will learn about human rights and view and respond to videos about bullying. Finally, you will write a story, play or poem that illustrates one aspect of social responsibility and write an action plan to make sure that you and others feel safe and welcomed in your classroom.
