A yearbook is so much more than just photographs collected during the year. A good yearbook is a collection of photographs that show what happened during the year, but do so in an artistic way. Yearbooks are all about design, organization, quality photography, and journalistic writing. A yearbook is something that people cherish and will keep for years and years to come - looking back on them from time to time.

This course will expose students to design, color, and layout theory, as well as content organization. There will be a heavy focus on photography - from the basic rules to creating artistic shots and an emphasis on journalistic writing. This course will complement our learning in class and give you access to resources that you will rely on throughout our journey together toward making the best yearbook our school has ever seen!

Design, and the resultant development of new technologies, has given rise to profound changes in society: transforming how we access and process information; how we adapt our environment; how we communicate with others; how we are able to solve problems; how we work and live. Design is the link between innovation and creativity, taking thoughts and exploring the possibilities, allowing them to redefine and manage the generation of further thought through prototyping, experimentation and adaptation. It is human-centred and focuses on the needs, wants and limitations of the end user.

Designing requires an individual to be imaginative and creative. Decisions made need to be supported by adequate and appropriate research and investigation. Designers must adopt an approach that allows them to think creatively, and critically, while conforming to the requirements of a design specification.

MYP design challenges all students to apply practical and creative thinking skills to solve design problems; encourages students to explore the role of design in both historical and contemporary contexts; and raises students’ awareness of their responsibilities when making design decisions and taking action.
